To celebrate the launch of Big Dance 2008, two glamorous burlesque-themed events are taking place at Derby Dance on Saturday 5 July – a fan-dancing workshop followed by an extravagant burlesque club night.
For wannabe burlesque stars there will be a special workshop at 2pm as the UKs most graceful teaser Millie Dollar teaches the art of Fan Dancing.
With her classic style and cheeky pin-up features, Millie has become a firm staple of the UK burlesque scene. This workshop offers the chance to learn the secrets of traditional fan dancing from Millie, prior to her performance as part of Hurly Burly at 8pm the same day.
Hurly Burly is a naughty-but-nice burlesque event overflowing with glitz and glamour. Expect the unexpected in an extravagant show featuring wonderful characters performing satirical sketches, songs, dance and humour. The party will then continue until the early hours with live music in the CUBE café|bar helping to bring a bit of glamour into the weekend.
Amongst the incredible acts introduced on the night by compere Countess Ava Goodfiel will be burlesque stars including the UKs most graceful teaser Millie Dollar, cheeky Cherry DeVille and Nottingham’s Scarlett Daggers.
Musical entertainment will come from sultry songstress Bella Von Kiss and a high energy performance by Leicester-based, roadhouse rockabilllies The Drugstore Cowboys. For something a bit different, comedy magician, contortionist and escapologist Chris Cross will baffle and amaze the audience with his fast and funny performance.
There will also be a fantastic market on the night selling everything from original artwork and vintage jewellery to gothic tiaras and corsets.
Tickets for the Burlesque Workshop with Millie Dollar on Saturday 5 July at 2pm are £10 (spaces are limited).
Tickets for Hurly Burly on Saturday 5 July at 8pm are £10, available from Derby Dance Box Office on 01332 370911.
