Jen Miles and Malcolm Basing
(CUBE annexe)
17 November - 20 February
This is Jen Miles and Malcolm Basing’s first joint exhibition since graduating in Commercial Photography at the University of Derby.
Jen Miles’ project Sunday documents the downfall and deterioration of religious buildings from generations past, in comparison to contemporary 'religious' buildings. The project questions the continuing changes in society and our changing values and attitudes.
Between a Rock and a Hard Place is a taste of Malcolm Basing’s immediate impression of Warsaw, following his move to the city. His work examines how the city’s architecture mirrors the changes in public morality, commercialism and personal aspirations.

Joan Ainley
(Gallery Déda stairs)
Until 20 February
Joan Ainley has been described as an enigmatic artist whose practice includes installations, editions, multiples and unique pieces which are exemplified by their capacity for multi-layered readings.
A particular interest is in the permanence of the apparently ephemeral and the use of camouflage not to conceal but as an agent to focus attention. Making connections and linking the past, present and future are central to the work in which leitmotifs include peace, pilgrimage, recollection and personal and collective memory. Everything is considered, re-evaluated and distilled and has the capacity to engage viewers’ attention with issues of truth and perception, becoming a catalyst to focus thought and reflection.
Joan exhibits widely throughout Britain and abroad. Works are in public and private collections including Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Paris, Tate Britain, and the V&A.
