Derby Dance is excited to co-host the One Step Beyond Fringe Exhibition with other venues around Derby, showcasing the cream of regional artistic talent. This unique arts event will be on display in Derby Dance’s CUBE café|bar and gallery spaces from 11 April to 28 May 2008. Other venues hosting the event include Derby Cathedral, Banks’ Mill Studios and Derby City Hospital.
In conjunction with the University of Derby and Derby Museum and Gallery’s One Step Beyond exhibition, the Fringe will promote around a dozen innovative emerging artists from the East Midlands, working across a range of styles and disciplines.
The fringe aims to raise the profile of these artists by exposing their work to new audiences and bringing their social, cultural and creative ideas together in some of Derby’s most creative organisations.

Creator of the One Step Beyond Fringe, University of Derby MA Fine Art Graduate Saira Lloyd said:
“Derby does not have a recognised annual arts festival and we are looking to celebrate the talent of people in the city. One Step Beyond Fringe Exhibition takes the concept of an arts festival a stage further by looking to highlight more unusual fringe art and creativity in areas people would not necessarily expect to see an art exhibition.
As part of the fringe, Derby Dance will be the final stop of a private viewing tour on Friday 11 April. Starting at 7.15pm at Derby Cathedral, the viewing tour will arrive at Derby Dance at 8pm, where local musician Corey Mwamba will perform music in response to the art on display. The private viewing tour is free and open to everyone.
Derby Dance will also be hosting an artist talk on Thursday 15 May from 1-2pm.
Exhibition & Gallery Space Information can be found here.
